CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Carbondale police are investigating reports of gunfire early Wednesday morning near the 500-block of East College Street.

Officers responded to the area around 1:11 a.m. on October 15, 2025, but didn't report finding any suspects or property damage.

Police said a witness described seeing an unknown male in a red hooded sweatshirt carrying a firearm running south on South Logan Street. The individual was not located.

There were no injuries reported, and the Illinois State Police assisted in the response.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Carbondale Police Department. The investigation is ongoing.
