KEOKUCK COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - Two years since the hayride crash that rocked the community in Keokuk County, David Heady now knows his fate: a ten year prison sentence .

“Your honor, I am humbly asking for mercy and grace,” Heady said.

Heady was a passenger in the vehicle that was pulling the hayride when it crashed, throwing 29 children off the ride and seriously hurting three of them.

One parent said her daughter, who was hurt in the crash, called her after it happened.

“I answered the phone and said, ‘Hello Shelby? Hello?’ A victim’s parent said. ”Shelby was screaming, ‘Mom I’m OK but some of my friends are not ok. They are hurt.’"

She also read her daughter’s statement.
