HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – Meta, which owns Instagram, says it will start cracking down on sexualized content and other adult material for teenagers who use the social media app.
One restriction that Instagram will be using is called ‘age-gating.’ It will block all teen accounts from seeing or chatting with an account that will regularly share age-inappropriate videos or pictures.
A second restriction will block teens’ search results for a wider range of adult search items. Instagram said it was borrowing the thinking behind PG-13 movie ratings, where it would hide or not recommend posts with strong language, risky stunts, sexually suggestive posts and pictures or videos with drugs.
