The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia Wednesday heard a case related to state efforts to ban what have been called "assault weapons" as well as high - capacity magazines.

In a show of support, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings accompanied New Jersey's Matthew Platkin before the hearing. According to Jennings, statistics have been showing a 67% drop in gun violence in Wilmington in eight years.

"We have a lot of work to do going forward, because one shooting is one too many," Jennings said. She also stated that the "AR-15s do not belong in the hands of civilians."

Gun rights supporters have been challenging such laws, saying they are in violation of the Second Amendment. The case was also the first one heard by two new Appeals Court Judges appointed by President Trump.
