Two Nobel-earning economists at MIT , including one who cosigned a March op-ed in a French newspaper decrying attacks against American scientific research, are headed to the University of Zurich next year, officials said.
Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo , who are married, will join the Zurich faculty in July, the Swiss school said in a recent statement .
“Using external funds provided by the Lemann Foundation, the two researchers will establish a new center for development economics, education, and public policy,” the school said.
The couple was awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics along with Michael Kremer of Harvard University for groundbreaking antipoverty research, MIT said at the time .
