Many businesses reported major losses in traffic and revenue, and some were forced to shut down
After two years of construction, Marda Loop business owners are cheering the completion of a revamp project, and welcoming Calgarians back into the neighbourhood.
“It’s been a tough couple of years . . . but we’re all very excited to get things rolling. Construction’s 99 per cent done,” said Paul Morissette, president of the Marda Loop BIA and owner of Fresh Kitchen.

“The project has definitely enhanced the neighbourhood — nine-foot sidewalks, walking paths, bike lanes, safer intersections for our customers — i t’s all very exciting.”
The project was part of the city’s Main Streets initiative, which aims to revitalize the hubs of Calgary’s more established neighbourh
