CENTER, Texas (KLTV) - Shelby County Commissioners held a special meeting Wednesday to discuss the next steps towards upgrading their AgriLife building.

There, they received revised financial quotes and estimates that came to a higher amount then planned, leading them to consider a local avenue.

“It’s really more than we want to spend on that project,” Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison said. “We think we may can do it locally and put out bids for a construction company that would give us these same services.”

She said the upgrades to the building, which used to serve as a library, include adding upgraded and handicapped-accessible restrooms.

Other planned upgrades include doubling the size of the largest room to serve as a meeting space or use for emergency management.
