WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Historic Waterbury Union Station is set to receive a series of major upgrades.

On Wednesday, state officials announced that construction on the $35 million project will tackle modernizing the station.

"Inside, we're going to create a brand new 1,600 square-foot indoor waiting room with 21 seats, restrooms, water fountains, security cameras and customer information displays," Garrett Eucalitto, commissioner of CTDOT, said.

Upgrades will include a new platform that will bring the station into ADA compliance.

"The improvements will make our station safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone who passes through," Waterbury Mayor Paul Pernerewski (D) said.
