Australian swimming legend Ariarne Titmus has announced her retirement from swimming at just 25.

Titmus revealed the shock move on Instagram on Thursday morning, writing a lengthy post as well as a video explaining her decision.

“But I think a turning point for me or a time when a switch was flicked was in the lead-up to the Paris Games, I went through some health challenges which, quite frankly, really rocked me, mentally,” she said.

“It probably was the first time where I considered some things outside of swimming.

“My whole swimming career, I’ve been all or nothing, and that’s how I’ve had to be to become the athlete I am.”
