A CFB Trenton public affairs officer on Friday will march from the base to Belleville General Hospital, carrying the symbolic weight of his teenage brother’s second cancer diagnosis.

Royal Canadian Air Force Capt. Aaron Niles will leave the base’s Bain Park at 8 a.m.

He and his colleagues are walking to raise funds for regional cancer care at Belleville General Hospital.

Niles’ brother, Sean, was diagnosed at just 2.5 months old with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Niles wrote in a media advisory. At one point, his family was told Sean had no more than 30 days to live.

Yet Sean qualified for experimental chemotherapy. He received a bone-marrow transplant from one of just two matching donors worldwide – and the cancer went into remission.
