It may not look like much more than a hole in the ground yet, but more than $20 million has already been spent on the new Parkinson recreation centre.

The project has a budget of $248.5 million and total spend so far is $20.8 million, according to information going to city council at Monday’s meeting.

Work so far includes site preparation, building excavations, the pouring of foundations, and placement of underground pipes for drainage, water, sewer lines, and electrical and communications systems.

“Preparations are in progress for the large slab pour, scheduled for early November. This will create a substantial, reinforced base to support the building above,” reads part of the report to council.
