A soldier has been airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition and two others have been injured after a vehicle crashed west of Townsville.

A rescue helicopter and five ambulances were sent to Hervey Range Road at 6.42pm on Wednesday.

One patient in a life-threatening condition was flown to Townsville University Hospital, along with a man in his 30s who had suffered chest and abdominal injuries and was in a stable condition.

Another man, in his 20s, suffered back injuries and was driven to the hospital in an ambulance.

The two latter patients were discharged from hospital early on Thursday.

In 2021, two soldiers died during a training exercise at the Townsville Field Training Area after a vehicle rolled down an embankment during a training exercise.
