SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - A local elementary school music teacher has earned national recognition, advancing as a semifinalist for one of the music industry’s most prestigious honors.
Alyson Humphrey Smith, a music teacher at A.C. Steere Smith Elementary School in Shreveport, was selected as a semifinalist for the 2026 Grammy Music Educator Award. She beat out nearly 2,000 educators from across the nation to earn the recognition.
Smith hopes to create a long-lasting impact in her students’ hearts one beat at a time.
“They get to be little rockstars. That’s probably my favorite thing,” Smith said. “I can see a kid who might struggle elsewhere, and they come into the music room and they shine. That’s my favorite thing.”
It’s that pure intention that caught the Grammy’s attention.
