MESQUITE, Texas — After family members grew concerned for the well-being of 42-year-old Keisha Hilliard, Mesquite police said they responded to a home on the 2000 block of Avis Circle in Mesquite.

Upon arriving on Sunday afternoon, police say they found family members gathered outside, and found Hilliard inside dead from a gunshot wound.

According to an email sent to WFAA and a GoFundMe , the family said Hilliard’s 7-month-old baby was in the home when she was killed. They also said a person of interest fled with that child and a 3-year-old.

The GoFundMe said both children were later found safe.

Police identified 42-year-old Christopher Whitt as the suspect. They said Whitt and Hilliard had been in a long-term relationship and share a child.
