MARION, Ill. (KFVS) - Passengers flying in and out of Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois have a shiny new place to spend their time before hitting the runway.

The Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois serves as a first impression of the region for thousands of visitors every year.

Mark Dohrenwind is a contract pilot from Madisonville, Kentucky,

He’s been flying into Williamson County for many years.

“We fly into this airport about once a week. Most of the time, more than once a week,” says Dohrenwind.

Dohrenwind adds that the brand new General Aviation Terminal was a much-needed improvement over the former aging facility. A building constructed in the 1950s that airport officials said wasn’t worth maintaining.
