TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) - It was expected to make a comeback, and it did. State lawmakers are once again faced with a contentious bill that stirred up fierce debate last session.

House bill 6003 looks to close what supporters call a deadly legal loophole in wrongful death lawsuits against hospitals.

2024-2025 session:

This past session state lawmakers voted overwhelmingly for legislation that would have allowed more families to file medical malpractice wrongful death lawsuits. But after session wrapped, Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed that bill, saying it would drive up healthcare costs and reduce physician access in Florida.
