Georgia school chief resigns after indictment alleging kickback scheme in Illinois 28 mins ago The superintendent of Georgia's third-largest school district is resigning after being indicted on federal charges. Devon Horton faces allegations of running a kickback scheme and stealing money from a suburban Chicago school district. The DeKalb County school board accepted his resignation effective November 15. Horton has been making $360,000 a year but will receive no payments after that date. A federal grand jury indicted him on 17 counts, including wire fraud and tax evasion. The indictment alleges Horton issued over $280,000 in contracts to friends and received more than $80,000 in kickbacks. Horton’s arraignment has been postponed until October 23.
