COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A rezoning request by the Solid Waste Department in Richland County could mean changes.
The land — located off Montgomery Road — could be changed from residential agriculture to heavy industrial use. But many living nearby say they’re concerned about what that could mean for their community.
Richland County owns the property, and the Solid Waste Department submitted the rezoning request.
The change would allow for more intensive industrial development on 80 acres.
Neighbors tell WIS that when they were at the Planning and Zoning meeting earlier this month, there was talk that the land could be used to expand the county landfill.
