One of the competitive City Council races this cycle is in District 13, a Bronx district currently represented by Republican Kristy Marmorato.

Marmorato's Democratic opponent this year is Shirley Aldebol, a former labor union executive who is running for office for the first time.

NY1 attempted to host a debate between the two candidates, but the Marmorato campaign was unable to accommodate multiple dates offered for a debate.

Aldebol, however, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis for an interview Wednesday.

She said she is running because she wants to do what's right for the district.
