The Shell Rock-A-Teers Quilts of Valor (QOV) creator Robyn Holden is making a quilt in honor of the city of Shell Rock.

She is putting together a large quilt of an American flag, with each sewing square including a signature of a current or past resident of Shell Rock or anyone with a connection.

Her inspiration came from a similar quilt that resides in the Shell Rock Historical Museum. It was made in 1921 and is a “signature quilt,” according to Holden.

“Those people that put their name on there, their name is forever a part of this community,” she said.

The original quilt had eight names included that were hand embroidered, and also included the Shell Rock Legion Auxiliary members’ names at the time.
