GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) — A man already behind bars on unrelated charges is now charged in a Greenville County cold case.

Robert Voorhees is charged with the murder of Janet Abrilz, who was found dead in Lakeside Park in 2023.

A woman he assaulted more than two decades ago said she barely survived an attack that should have kept him locked up longer.

Court records show Voorhees was sentenced to four years in prison for a 2004 attack on April Dawkins, who spoke exclusively to FOX Carolina.

“I knew I was gonna die. I just knew I was gonna die,” Dawkins said, recalling the assault she said nearly killed her.

Dawkins said she was lying in the bushes for 11 hours before someone found her along Hilltop Road in Greenville.
