A group of 35 student speakers from six Santa Barbara County schools gathered at Dunn School on Saturday for the Central Coast Speech and Debate Invitational, a growing regional competition that celebrates authentic communication in an increasingly digital world.

Students from Dunn Middle School, Riviera Ridge, and Ballard School competed in the junior division, while Dunn School, Dos Pueblos High School, and Midland School represented the high school division.

Competitors showcased their skills in Original Oratory, Interpretation, and Spontaneous Argumentation (SPAR), with Dunn School’s Husna Balaven earning top honors in both Original Oratory and Original Interpretation.
