At Tuesday’s county Commissioners Court meeting, Judge David Blackburn signed a proclamation declaring October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Bell County.

The proclamation was brought before commissioners by local volunteer organization Bell County Texas Democratic Women, as they have done for many years, according to a news release.

“This proclamation affirms that as a community, we will not turn away from the realities of domestic violence,” said Bell County Texas Democratic Women President Terris Goodwin, speaking before the proclamation was signed. “It’s a reminder that behind every statistic is a person. A neighbor, co-worker, or friend whose life has been impacted by the many forms of abuse.”
