PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - People in a southeast Portland neighborhood have been given the all-clear after being told to shelter in place during a standoff with an armed suspect on Wednesday.

At about 7:30 p.m., police said the standoff with a man armed with a gun had ended.

According to police, after the suspect refused to leave the garage, they used chemical irritants to try and force him out.

Then, they found him inside the garage suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was rushed to the hospital in police custody.

The standoff began around 4 p.m., when police said tactical teams and a crisis negotiation team were being sent to a garage near Southeast 72nd Avenue and Southeast Sherrett Street, after a suspect had “barricaded” himself inside.
