DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Television Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Over 10,000 people attended Iowa Congressional District 1 Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ over-the-phone town hall on Wednesday night to discuss the ongoing government shutdown.

The federal government has now been closed for 15 days.

Republican Miller-Meeks has avoided in-person town halls after seeing some of them filled with organized opposition.

At the town hall, she blamed Democrats for the continuing failure to pass a budget bill.

“Every week this shutdown drags on, Iowa’s economy loses $137 million. That’s money not being spent in our communities, on our Main Street and in our local businesses at this point in time.”

The partial shutdown has caused 750,000 federal workers to not get a paycheck.
