COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s baby gorilla has officially been named Sully!
The baby was born to gorillas Asha and Goma on July 21. CMZoo said it has been almost 13 years since a gorilla was born at the zoo, and this is Asha’s third baby and Goma’s first.
Sully’s name was chosen in a vote where the public could donate money that would go towards the name of their choice.
Guests chose between three names: Ryder, Sully and Abu.
The zoo shared the meaning behind these three names:
Ryder — a nod to this baby’s particular skill at riding on his mom’s back from a younger-than-normal age
Sully — in honor of a bright-and-furry character with a heart of gold
Abu — because he’s skilled and loyal, just like a furry friend from the fictional city of Agrabah
