After two lengthy hospitalisations for his mental health, Tony Read did not feel supported after being discharged.

"Either I didn't know what [support] was there, or it simply wasn't there," the 57-year-old said.

"There was no one who understood me or how to navigate the seriously lacking, fragmented and complex mental health system, well enough to provide meaningful assistance and to help guide me on my recovery journey."

It was this experience that put him on a path to help others navigate the challenges posed by mental health struggles and access the support available to them.

Mr Read is now employed as a peer worker at the Devonport Medicare Mental Health Centre , commissioned by Primary Health Tasmania and operated by Stride Mental Health.
