City of Cockburn mayor Logan Howlett has questioned the timing of a proposal from his deputy and election rival Chontelle Stone at the city’s last meeting before elections.

Cr Stone is one of three councillors looking to end Mr Howlett’s 16-year reign as mayor at this weekend’s local government elections.

Caretaker provisions introduced by the State Government last year as part of local government reform came into effect for the first time this year.

They run from the close of nominations until election day and are intended to stop councils from making major decisions or commitments that could influence voters or bind the incoming council.
