The City of South Perth is celebrating their most successful Emerging Artist Award yet, with a record-breaking number of entries and a win for Rivervale artist Janice Oliver.
An agricultural scientist turned artist, Ms Oliver claimed the top honour for her black-and-white print Come Fly with Me, which explores themes of loss following the 1968 Meckering earthquake.
She took home the $5000 Emerging Artist Award and will also have the opportunity to exhibit her work at Heritage House.
“Thank you so much to the City of South Perth for believing in emerging artists no matter their age or where they’re from,” Ms Oliver said.
This year’s competition attracted a record-breaking number of over 250 entries from across Western Australia.
