New York Attorney General Letitia James' legal bills for the federal charges against her will be paid by a new fund created to defend her and her peers against retaliatory cases by the Trump administration.

The group representing Democratic attorneys general in 23 states announced the fund on Sept. 26 , saying it would defray expenses for members or their staffs "who are targeted for political retribution by the Trump administration." The statement predicted that would soon happen to James after President Donald Trump fired and replaced a U.S. attorney who declined to bring a case against her.
