OXFORD, Miss. - A Lafayette County inmate was found dead in his cell early this morning, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the sheriff's office, John Halley Jr. was found unresponsive in his cell during routine checks. Deputies alerted Lafayette County 911 Dispatch and attempted life-saving measures. Medical personnel arrived at the jail as well, performing patient care but were unsuccessful in their attempts.
Paramedics with the Baptist Ambulance Service pronounced Halley Jr. dead.
The sheriff's office reported that there is no foul play suspected at this time, and the cause of death will be determined by the Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office.
