A huge fire which led to homes being evacuated is being treated as arson - with a suspect taken to custody.

Emergency services attended Lonsdale Road, in Levenshulme , at around 6.35pm on Wednesday (October 15) after a blaze broke out.

The fire is believed to have erupted from an outdoor shed. Lonsdale Road was sealed off while firefighters worked at the scene.

Five homes were evacuated while fire crews worked into the night.

Greater Manchester Police says a male suspect has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. His age is yet to be confirmed.
