As households prepare for another costly winter, energy experts are warning against a dangerous DIY heating trend circulating online. With the Ofgem price cap set at £1,755 from October - many families are desperately seeking ways to cut costs. But according to experts at Grant Store, one cheap heating hack could end in disaster.

“We’ve seen advice online suggesting that people light candles and place a terracotta pot on top to create a makeshift heater,” the experts said. “This is extremely unsafe. The risks range from burns if the pot is touched, to the candle pot shattering under the heat, or the entire structure toppling and starting a fire. In the worst cases, it could burn your house down.”
