A senior Punjab police officer was arrested on Thursday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in an alleged corruption case. Harcharan Singh Bhullar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Ropar range, was caught red-handed by the CBI accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a complainant.
The complainant alleged that Bhullar had demanded Rs 5 lakh to settle a claim. He had summoned the complainant to his Mohali office for the first instalment when the central agency conducted a raid and caught him red-handed. A middle man linked to the DIG was also arrested.
Ropar Range comprises Mohali, Rupnagar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. Sources said the CBI's action followed a complaint by a scrap dealer from Fatehgarh. The agency had been monitoring the actions of DIG Bhullar for some tim
