The Monroe County Health Department is scrambling to figure out a way to deliver state-mandated public health services such as vaccinations and communicable disease investigations after IU Health said it is ending a decades-old contract to provide those services at its Miller Drive clinic.

A health department plan, crafted in a special session last week by the Monroe County Health Board, to provide the services in-house ran into opposition at the Monroe County Council meeting Tuesday, in spite of the tight deadline.
