Kada Scott was last seen on Oct. 5.

A suspect has been arrested and charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of Kada Scott, a Philadelphia woman who remains missing.

Keon King, 21, was taken into custody on Oct. 14 in connection with Scott's disappearance and has been charged with kidnapping and reckless endangerment, Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said at a news conference on Oct. 15.

However, officials are still searching for Scott, 23, who was last seen on Oct. 5, leaving her job at a nursing home.

Police said they believe King and Scott were in communication before she disappeared. Officials previously said Scott told family members prior to her disappearance that someone was harassing her via phone, though Toczylowski declined to comment on whether King was the individual.

"A lot of work still to be done. The No. 1 priority is locating Miss Scott," John M. Stanford, first deputy commissioner for field operations at the Philadelphia Police Department, said at the news conference.

It's unclear if King has an attorney who can comment on his behalf.

Police find suspect's car after seeking public's help

Police said they were seeking the public's help in locating a vehicle belonging to King which they believe Scott may have been in.

The car, a 1999 metallic-gold Toyota Camry, was found at an apartment complex in Philadelphia's East Falls neighborhood on Oct. 15, Philadelphia Police confirmed to USA TODAY.

Anyone with information about Scott's whereabouts should contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-3353.

Suspect was previously accused of kidnapping in a separate case

Toczylowski said King was arrested and charged with strangulation and kidnapping in a separate case earlier this year. The case was dismissed after the witness failed to appear in court, but prosecutors have now reopened it.

Prosecutors believe King allegedly kidnapped a woman in front of her house, putting her in his car and assaulting her before letting her out.

The previous case was domestic in nature, Toczylowski said.

"So at this point he will have two open kidnapping cases that will face preliminary hearings in the coming months," Toczylowski said.

Kada Scott went missing after leaving her job, officials said

Scott was last seen at her job at a nursing home on Oct. 5, Philadelphia police Capt. John Craig said at a news conference on Oct. 8.

She typically worked from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Craig said. Investigators believe she arrived at her work but left within the first 20 minutes of her shift, Frank Vanore, Philadelphia Police's deputy commissioner of investigations, said Oct. 15.

Vanore said Scott and King were corresponding before her disappearance, but the nature of their relationship is unclear.

"I don't know their relationship. Obviously, they had a connection," Vanore said. "They're going back and forth, and they've known each other for a short time, but I don't know how long."
