MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be conducting two sobriety checkpoints somewhere in Mahoning County this weekend.

The checkpoints are scheduled for Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18. More specific details, including the time and location of the checkpoints, will be announced later.

The checkpoints will be accompanied by saturation patrols by various law enforcement agencies throughout Mahoning County in order to intercept and deter impaired drivers on the roadway.

A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires that drivers be notified before sobriety checkpoints are conducted to avoid violating constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure. The ruling did not specify what constitutes adequate notification.
