The remains of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga arrived in Nairobi from India, where he died on October 15, 2025, aged 80.

He will be laid to rest at his home in Bondo, western Kenya, on Sunday, honoring his wish to be buried within 72 hours of his death.

An influential figure in Kenyan politics and a champion of multiparty democracy, Odinga will receive a state funeral.

President William Ruto declared seven days of national mourning, describing his death as an “immense and immeasurable loss.”

Odinga served as prime minister from 2008 to 2013 and ran for president five times without success, leaving a profound legacy in Kenya’s democratic journey.
