In a shocking case of deception and brutality, police in Agartala have arrested a man accused of pretending to be a Hindu and luring a transgender person into a relationship before subjecting her to severe physical and mental torture.

West Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee said that the incident came to light in August, when the transgender victim lodged a complaint alleging that she had been duped, tortured, and robbed of her valuables by a man who falsely identified himself as Sujit Das, a Hindu. Police later discovered that the accused’s real name is Jalil Mia, a resident of Rajnagar, on the outskirts of Agartala.
