LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - It appears other Big 12 coaches are as high on Kansas freshman Darryn Peterson as Jayhawks head coach Bill Self.
When Self signed Peterson to the program a year ago, he called it “one of the best recruiting moments that Kansas basketball has had in decades.”
On Thursday, the Big 12 released its preseason coaches poll and shared award winners for the conference’s preseason awards. Peterson was named Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year, becoming the 10th Jayhawk in program history to win the award.
Peterson took the honor ahead of BYU forward AJ Dybantsa. The two were the No. 1 and No. 2 players in 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings for the class of 2025.
The 6-foot-5 freshman guard for the Jayhawks was the Naismith Trophy High School Player of the Year during his
