Train derailment leads to coal spill in rural Cape Girardeau Co.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - Crews responded to a train derailment in rural Cape Girardeau County.

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on Wednesday night, October 15.

Railroad personnel and other officials were on scene on Thursday.

According to our crew at the scene, about 10 coal cars derailed, spilling coal.

The BNSF train appears to be about a half-mile long or longer.

The derailment is on Southern Stone property.
