Massachusetts households are earning more than those in any other state, according to a new data map from Visual Capitalist .

The Bay state’s median household income reached $104,828 in 2024, the highest of any other U.S. state, and second only to Washington D.C., at $109,707, in the list of states and territories.

Behind Massachusetts is New Jersey at $104,294, Maryland at $102,905, Hawaii at $100,745, and California at $100,149. All were significantly higher than the national average at $81,604.

Visual Capitalist based its rankings and map on 2024 median household income data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey , the most recent figures available.
