Donald Trump is set to speak to Russia’s Vladimir Putin as he considers Ukraine’s push for long-range missiles.

The US president will speak to the Russian leader on Thursday, the White House has confirmed. The call will take place ahead of a meeting in Washington on Friday between Mr Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Mr Zelensky is continuing to press the US to sell them Tomahawk missiles that would allow Ukrainian forces to strike deeper into Russian territory.

He has said such strikes would help compel Mr Putin to take Mr Trump’s calls for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end the war more seriously.
