The family of actress Diane Keaton has revealed the star’s cause of death. In a statement issued to People Wednesday , the family confirmed the 79-year-old Keaton died as a result of pneumonia.

“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11," read a portion of the statement.

TMZ reported paramedics were called to the iconic actress’s Los Angeles home around 8:08 a.m. Saturday for reports of a “person down.” Keaton was transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Keaton’s career spanned more than 55 years as she began acting in 1968. Her break came in 1972 when she appeared as Kay Adams in “The Godfather.
