A Pontiac woman charged with nine felonies for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from prospective homebuyers was released from custody early Wednesday morning.

Amanda Escalante-Lopez was set free for now after posting $5,000 — the required 10% of a $50,000 cash or surety bond set by 50th District Magistrate Angelena Thomas-Scruggs at her Oct. 14 arraignment. She’s due back in court on Oct. 22 for a probable cause conference before Judge Ronda Gross.

Escalante-Lopez, 28, is charged with three counts of false pretenses – $20,000 or more, two counts of false pretenses – $1,000 to $20,000, one count of larceny by conversion – $20,000 or more, and three counts of larceny by conversion – $1,000 to $20,000.
