Lake County Fire Rescue has been awarded $7.5 million for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security / FEMA. This funding will go towards hiring 36 new firefighters. Created by Congress, the SAFER program helps local fire departments increase the number of trained, full-time firefighters by funding salaries and benefits. It supports national staffing standards while easing the financial burden on local taxpayers.
