Tasmania's arts minister Madeleine Ogilvie has been warned by her department that the sector is "nationally uncompetitive and highly vulnerable", due to "sub-optimal" investment.
The briefing, obtained by the ABC, lists the government's support for the arts and screen sector as a key issue, noting that it is "by far the lowest in Australia in both per capita and actual terms", and has not materially changed since 2016-17.
It says the underfunding is a "major reputational risk" for the government, because the state's branding "relies heavily on its creative, arts and cultural sectors to drive visitation and population growth".
It also says that despite record years of television and film production in Tasmania, the allocation to Screen Tasmania "remains dangerously low".
