November’s Vancouver mayoral race likely will come down to experience.

Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, 72, has plenty of it. The retired educator was a member of Vancouver’s planning commission for five years before being elected to the Vancouver City Council in 2013 and elected to her first term as Vancouver’s mayor in 2017.

Challenger Justin Forsman’s lack of political experience is not for lack of trying. Forsman, 38, has been a frequent candidate in local and statewide races. With the exception of the 2020 election for Clark County Republican precinct officer, he has failed to garner a majority vote in any election. He ran four times for Vancouver City Council between 2015 and 2021 and four times for the state Legislature between 2016 and 2024.
