A Mildura father-of-six has avoided jail after drunkenly crashing his motorbike while carrying his young daughter as a passenger.

The man, who cannot be named, mounted a nature strip and hit a mailbox and fence while riding with his daughter on April 30.

The Mildura Magistrates' Court heard the girl, who was sitting on the back of the bike, was not injured but was taken to hospital for observation.

The father pleaded guilty to one charge of high-range drink driving.

Police told the court the man returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.178 — more than three times the legal limit.

The court was told his driver's licence was suspended, the bike's registration had expired the week before, and he did not hold a motorbike licence.
