CORVALLIS, Ore. - Firefighters are starting pile burning on the Siuslaw National Forest due to the cool, damp fall weather, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.

The Forest Service said that the burning will continue through the spring when conditions are safe.

The operations will take place in the Hebo and Central Coast Ranger Districts. Firefighters will ignite slash piles created from restoration and vegetation management activities. These efforts aim to eliminate woody debris before it becomes a fire hazard in the summer.

Smoke may be visible near trails, roadways, and waterways, but it's expected to have minimal impact. No area closures are planned. If residents have concerns about smoke, they are advised to contact local fire departments or Siuslaw National Forest Ranger Sta
